Moving the Dynamo out of Houston? Kiss my…
By: Daryl | April 17th, 2008First Eddie Robinson is suspended for 3 games (Which he deserved).
Now Don Garber is saying he’ll move the Dynamo out of Houston? What the F***
Don Garber basically puts gasoline on a damn fire, I know maybe his intention was to help the process but threatening the mayor is not the way to go.
Don, if you move the Dynamo out of Houston you’ve got another thing coming, obviously you can’t see the stands are filled every match, that there are rabid supporter groups screaming their heads off at every match, and the 2 MLS cups that were brought home to Houston. Do you have any idea how many pissed off people there would be? You want to grow the league and attract more fans but you want to take quite possibly one of the greatest growing franchises in American soccer history out of the city were its had its most success?? Yeah…that’ll grow a whole lot more fans jackass.
Oh yeah, and I’m real sure Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Productions are going to love your idea!
Just because things aren’t going our way with negotiations for a new stadium doesn’t mean you have to come out and say some stupid crap.
This is just too much; I’ll be back later when I’m not shaking so much

I think the Mayor of Houston said on record he doesn’t like to be threatened? Oh the dramz in Houston this week.

Yesterday, my heart (lifted up with Celtic’s win) sank and then sank again after I read the Don’s unbelievably stupid letter. (What is he doing, channeling Sepp Blatter here?!?!?) Talk about counterproductive. I think I’m going to take a position of pretending it didn’t happen, which I would hope would be Oliver Luck’s message to the Mayor, kind of a “See what I have to deal with.” sort of thing.
Just cool it guys, and get the deal done the way all Houston deals have been done since the Brothers Allen first launched this bayou berg, in the quiet of a back room. Then we can all play nice and ignore moron Garber.

As more of a general MLS fan, I’d honestly say Garber should be fired if he orchestrates this. A rabid fan base and a great team? Use your fucking head Don. You’ve done a lot of good for the league Don, but don’t fuck it up by flushing one of the premier franchises on the league now away. The league should be expanding, not more of this relocation shit.

I’m with my Bhoy Matt on this. Garber is an ill-informed joke if he thinks this is going to be anything but counterproductive in this city. I hope our three-headed ownership monster tells him where to go. (Best not to get into a fight with the Golden One, if you know what I mean.)

How am I supposed to lob random, unnecessary insults at Houston without the Dreamsicles present?
What am I supposed to do replace them with Colorado? No one likes Colorado!?!

Robert, in his his humor makes a good point. One of the downfalls of the MLS is the fact that the USA is just too damn big to have very many natural geographic rivals. So why in the hell would you want to uproot one of the best in the MLS? Makes no sense, no matter what way you look at it.

Im somewhat concerned about this…I thought the NASL was done with and this relocation from city to city shit was over. Garber needs to get a freaking clue, if you live in Houston then you know the Dynamo are supported very heavily here more so than alot of other citys teams, and it would be a heartbreaker to have our team move all I can say is OILERS anyone? ORANGE!

Real Salt Lake went through a similar situation when they wanted to build a stadium. The city and county didn’t want to pay for it, but the state legislature finally bent over, gave up tax money, and the stadium is being built in the suburbs. I understand that there is a benefit to the local community to have a soccer team, but why do these companies/individuals owning the teams deserve a break of public tax dollars funding their development?

You spend tax dollars on them because stadia are, in the end, de facto public goods, no mater who’s making the money on them. I’ve never had any problems with spending tax dollars on stadia. It’s always been how the deals were done in the end that got my goat. Case in point, the city and county here in Houston own Minute Maid Park, but after the deal was signed and before it was completed, they “sold” the naming rights to Astros owner Drayton McLain for an absurdly low figure, which he then sold to Enron for $100 million (Ironically the same projected cost of the entire Dynamo Park)!! How much of that did the city get? Nothing. And yet, this deal was done after construction was well under way. Was Drayton going to walk away at that point over the naming rights deal? No. And yet, he got extra millions that could have gone to the city. Stoopid.

And if anyone’s interested, there’s a poll I just put up over at Nutmegged on this issue. Garber, we’re a’ comin’ for you if you don’t shut your mouth.
