Hmmm, you are not the first person I’ve heard say she sucks. But I seem to be watching the Euros off Japanese television so I have absolutely no opinion one way or the other. Why is she so bad?

Shes not a bad analyst, I just don’t see the relation between her and men’s soccer, its nothing sexist agaisnt her maybe if she had been covering mens soccer as a reporter all her life I’d get it.
And all I have to do is go back to SOCKTOBER to bring back bad memories of her.
Melissa…are you using SopCast..?

Sopcast for the effin win, yo. I kind of like the games off Japanese tv. Mostly because I can’t understand what the commentators are saying. Ah, bliss…

well apparently Ruud Gullit loves her.

ESPN Deportes FTW!
Julie foudy is annoying, they ask her opinion ‘as a player’ on certain things and she totally disregards the question and just gives her point of view.
During the WC she was ditzy.

she can cover men’s soccer as good as any other espn staff. they all suck and would be just as bad if covering women’s or men’s soccer. at least she knows the sport which is better than some. all that said, she’s not very good. it just doesn’t have anything to do with the gender of the teams playing the game.

If it was ESPN Deportes, then I’d understand enough to kind of sort of know what the commentators are saying but with Japanese tv, I got NOTHING. No clue. They could really be talking about butt plugs (for example), and I’d think they were analyzing Croatia’s defense. Perfect.
As for Foudy, you’ve peaked my interest to go watch her do her thing on tv now.

Thanks for the clarification -nickt.-, I was wondering about that.

EXACLTY what i was thinking. she takes away from intensity, and the seriousness about it. just something about it…

i agree.. julie foudy is extremely, EXTREMELY annoying. I mean im not being sexist or anything.. but her voice is just so ANNOYING.. Everything thing she says .. haha

I do not think she is worse than most of the other ESPN commentators (Reese, Tommy, I’m lookin’ at you). Although I do not think she is *good*, and I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think she has improved since the WC, when I wanted to punch my television every time she said something. I don’t think her gender has anything to do with it (refer to Reese and Tommy, above).

all ESPN soccer commentators are horrendous. Somebody please get rid of Tommy Smyth and the rest of those babbling, useless, scottish “analysts.”

look – some people seem completely lost in front of the camera – uncomfortable – jittery – that Foudy. She just doesn’t come off natural in broadcasts which in turn makes her seem annoying. Super annoying.

I agree with Dave that Foudy looked really uncomfortable in the beginning, but I think she has gotten better over the tournament and I like her insights on that Axis thing (though I think the device is a bit stupid). Why Tommy Smyth and his “auld onion bag” can get annoying Japple, I think if you called him Scottish you might need to duck…Despite Andy Gray’s lineage, I enjoy his commentary so far. Say something good about Wattie Smith and we might have a different story though…

ESPN Deportes is alright , but damn Kempes.. his voice, my ears, they bleed

Yeah, Foudy is the least of the problems of that broadcast team, and, frankly, I think she puts more thought into the matter as a former player than 99% of other former players.
And to the larger point: if Foudy’s unqualified to discuss men’s soccer, surely we can boot all the men from, say, the Women’s World Cup?

ya I dont agree with the whole “she is a chick, she shouldnt be doing guy games” – personally, watching Foudy makes me uncomfortable because she seems so uncomfortable. Its distracting. She isn’t horrible, just not my cup of tea.
WORST announcers are the FSC mexican guys who do the spanish matches – talk about bias. They are HORRENDOUSLY biased – idiots. Cant stand them.

^^^^
Theyre better than ANY american announcer out there. and by saying “spanish announcers” you mean theyre from Spain right ? otherwise, latino announcers actually call the game with *gasp* PASSION !! something ive never seen in american commentating before.

the guy speaks spanish he probably knows what hes talking about angelo
the only commentating i cant stand is ray hudson–i used to like him but he is so madrid-biased i mute him now, it’s ridiculous

check this out, haha
http://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=706736oh and the argie accent on espndeportes does make ears bleed, but sometimes provides a lol and some to practice my imitation.
and the Mexican bias on Fox Sports makes the ears hurt, but not bleed.

Angelo – I am friggin Argie and I understand SPANISH is SPAIN, but jeez, its commonly understood Colloquialism!
And there is a difference between PASSION and BIAS.
Personally? I like SPANISH/LATINO announcers better than ENGLISH/AMERICAN ones. But FSE is RIDICULOUS. Its not FOX MEXICAN CHANNEL, its FOX SOCCER ESPANOL. And to hear a couple of Mexicans basically chiding Boca when they were against Atlas saying “I know Boca wont score. They dont have it in them. They wont be able to score. I know Boca and they always collapse. Atlas is a reknowned team that has handled greater pressure. Boca has lost the plot . . . ” get the F out of here with that noise. They are HORRENDOUS.
And the Argie’s are no better – but they do it on ARGIE networks. Notice, I am not rippining on Univision – they cater towards Mexicans. But FSE? Get the F out . . .

Why do I have the feeling that if it was Heather Mitts (a 20-something blond regularly considered one of the hottest on the womens team) as opposed to the 30-something brunnette mother Julie Foudy saying the exact same thing on the broadcast Daryl wouldn’t be making the contention that women shouldn’t be commenting on men’s soccer? Julie hasn’t been more of an idiot than any of the other announcers, and while that is a low bar there is no reason that ESPN should exclude members of the most successful US teams from broadcasting possibilities on the basis of gender.

Bluemeanies, I disagree with you I think Julie foudy is a very very beautiful woman and while the comparison between the two are a joke, I would still take Julie into the backroom anyday!
And its not so much I don’t think she should be commentating I just dont think she should be commentating on Euro 2008!Posted from

Foudy is so clueless and so is reece davis. what is with these american commentators that make it sound like americans are complete idiots and dont know the game at all?
tommy smyth and andy gray must be cringing sitting next to them having to listen to the stupid crap they say.
