The Arabe Unido Bait Shop
By: Jeremy | August 28th, 2009
How many of you watched the delayed broadcast of the Champions League match between Panama’s Arabe Unido and the Dynamo? It was quite the spectacle. I don’t think I have ever seen a ref in less control of a match.
This is the apparent strategy of the Panamanian side:
1. Play physical and bait opponent into retaliation.
2. Upon any contact with opponent, flop and squirm like a salted slug.
3. Rinse and repeat.
One particular play, and you know what I’m talking about… Corey Ashe. Apparently there’s a rule in soccer that states that you can’t touch a player that slides into you. Ashe possessed the ball, streaking down the left side and was tackled as he crossed a pass towards goal. The Arabe Unido dude tackled him, not the other way around. But here’s the official rule (I haven’t actually looked this up or researched it in any way, but this must be how it reads)…
If a player thrusts his head into an opposing player’s foot, the opposing player will receive a red card.
It’s a kamikaze play, only without the explosions and death and stuff.
The rest of the match wasn’t much different and resulted in a 1-1 draw.
The rematch will be Tuesday, September 22nd at 9:00 PM. Yes, 9:00 PM on a Tuesday.

Unbelievable. I have never seen anything like it. It was a complete joke. Arabe Unido’s win over Pachuca doesnt look as impressive now. Who knows what went on during that game.

That game was CRAZY. I guess Ashe is supposed to defy gravity and not land on the player that knocks him off his feet. I’m still trying to figure out the situation with Holden’s red card. All the camera showed was him walking off with some choice words regarding what he thought of the situation.
