Sometimes It Sucks To Be Good

By: Jeremy | July 20th, 2009

The past few weeks have been rough for the Dynamo. No, not because they have been on the road for over a month, but because this international duty crap is making it difficult to field a consistent lineup. And of course it’s the top players that are out. Brian Ching and Stuart Holden are off making America look good and Andrew Hainault is… playing for Canada. Danny Cruz is up and down, too, with his U-20 (23?) duty. At least Rico Clark is here for the time being. Momentum is tough to sustain when nations come to cherry pick your best players in the middle of the season. I know there’s really no way around it, and I understand it’s an honor for these players to be selected, but I’m trying to support my team dammit.

Houston has been able to boast their depth but now it is starting to wear thin. The Orange Abyss is starting to resemble the Brazos River. Brad Davis has the swine sniffles. Richard Mulrooney had knee surgery (I liked him better when he just had a broken face). Wade Barrett has a gastrocnemius (calf) strain. And Cam Weaver has an adductor strain. What is that? Wikipedia gives this bullshit explanation. The MLS website even lists Emmanuel Ekpo as suspended from the Dynamo. He doesn’t even play for us. Geez, I know we’re the definition of depletion, but don’t credit us with someone else’s problem.

Credit coach Kinnear for piecing together a competitive side each week. The results could be worse. But I want the old team back. I want to see players back into their natural, comfortable positions. I am tired of the constant side-story of the Dynamo being top in the league, but… There’s always a “but” and I am losing patience.

No, the picture doesn’t relate to the article in any way, but it sure makes me feel better.

FOREVER ORANGE

Dallas sucks.

Nothing against the story, Jeremy (agree with you), but the photo was a nice pick-me-up this afternoon. If you can track down a similar one of a more obviously Latina woman, I would not be upset at all…

I’ll be on the lookout for that.

True enough. I’m tired as hell of scraping together draws while other teams feel good about themselves for managing that against ‘league leading Dynamo’. It’s crap and we should be up at least 10 points by now over everyone else. I am especially disappointed after last nights US Open loss, in which Seattle played their A squad (minus Ljungberg) and we fielded a reserve team that still managed to keep the lead until the 89th minute.

    Bring our boys home!
