Match Preview: Dynamo v. Rapids

So its come down to this, back to back defending champs are stilling looking for their first win of ‘08. We go into this game still bottom of the Western standings with four points out of six games, and four ties.

Last year we had a similar run as you may recall where we won I think it was 2 out of the first 8 games….well Dom would like you to know this is not deja vu.

“Well, this year the weather this year is nice, so that is different,” Kinnear quipped. “But yes, (our start this year) does remind me of last year. Because even with our slow start last year, we were still playing hard, the right way, but we just were not getting the results.”

“It’s one of those things where I think if we can just get that one win, we will get a sense of relief, and then a sense of urgency,” Kinnear said. “When we get that goal, it will be the same. It will be that something positive. This group is good. Home or away, I think we have outplayed teams. That doesn’t mean that you get what you are looking for.”

I can say I 100% agree with him, whereas I think our season is going down the drain, Dom has a cool collective head on his shoulders to ease my woes.

The rapids head into this game on a very big high, they are in 1st place, and they are coming off a game in which former D.C. United midfielder Christian Gomez completely dominated the midfield and put in 2 assists in a 2-0 win over United.

On the other hand we are coming off a hang-over of a season, with our most recent outing being against Chivas USA in a 0-0 tie. We largely dominated but didn’t win.

5 Things to look for:

1)A Goal - Seriously…when are we going to be able to celebrate some small hope of Dynamo joy….we NEED a goal…….please?

2)Pat Onstad - The dependable Canadian is back for his 2nd game in the fold after being out for a few games due to a shoulder injury, I fully expect Colorado to come out shooting, and it will be up to Onstad to keep em out.

3)Pyrotechnics guy - Please don’t blow fireworks up in your face again.

4)The Edge - Our boys are desperate for a win and they’ll need the edge in this game to win.

5)Guy-Roland Kpene - Apparently we got him on a developmental contract and will be available for today’s team selection, sad to say but I don’t think this kid will cut it in MLS.
