Evolution of a Blog
By: Jeremy | May 5th, 2009Several weeks ago I was checking the web for Dynamo news, looking at different forums and catching up on the latest MLS happenings. After one Google search I landed on this Offside post. I was surprised, not that an FC Dallas supporter was taking shots at Houston, but that Houston did not have someone contributing to the site. It gave me enough spark to send in an “audition” response.
So I’m sitting here at work and passing time by looking for my daily fix of soccer news. I come across this site, one I haven’t seen before. I’m sure it’s obvious now that I’m not an experienced blogger, but apparently the city of Houston isn’t either.
I’m reading an old post from a blogger named Robert as he attempts to ridicule any and all Dynamo fans. It’s just one of those typical “Letterman” style Top 10 lists. This one is titled “My Top Ten Houston Dynamo Fan Insults.” It was written because, as Robert states, “they don’t have a blogger to defend themselves.” It includes a variety of standard fat, stupid, and “stank” jokes. Nothing impressive or even that comical, but this isn’t my point. Houston has “SCOREBOARD” on FC Dallas. Retaliating with more lame jokes would be a waste of thought.
Robert shouldn’t need to insult others to make himself feel better about his club. FC Dallas has accomplished many feats since their 1996 formation. There was the U.S. Open Cup in 1997. Then there was the…well, hmm… I guess that’s it. No, wait, I thought of another one. At Robertson Stadium, home of the Houston Dynamo, I like the way the visiting Dallas fans throw their pretty little red, white, and blue streamers into the trees. That’s cute. See, Robert, you have that Cup and pretty little streamers, too.
But you also have a state-of-the-art soccer facility. Pizza Hut Park is very impressive and Houston has every right to be envious. And remember that game back in 2006 when there was a record crowd of 22,427 fans there to watch a soccer game? That was awesome. I actually remember watching that game on TV, the crowd screaming as the home club took the pitch. That must be a very proud moment for FC Dallas. Oh wait, that was the Dynamo in that game taking on New England Revolution, FC Dallas wasn’t there. You know, that was when Houston won their first of back-to-back MLS Cup championships. Good times.
I am disappointed that no other Dynamo fan has stepped up to blog for the hometown Orange. Maybe we have become so accustomed to our own success that we haven’t felt the need to remind everyone how great we are. But if a blogger is what you want, then a blogger you’ll get. It’s not difficult to talk about a team such as the Dynamo. So, until next time…goodwill towards all.
FOREVER ORANGE
So that’s how it started. Please note, the author of the original ‘Making Fun of Houston’ article (Robert) no longer writes for TheOffside. So don’t jump on the new writer, it wasn’t his doing.
