Dynamo 2-0 D.C. United, I told ya so…
By: Daryl | July 24th, 2008
I knew eventually this game would get played but I can say no one certainly expected so many issues with RFK’s lighting system and I’m assuming the absence of a back-up generator because once again the game came to a halt in the 54th minute due to….you guessed it the lights went out!
Besides that the goals came from the usual suspects Brian Ching getting a team high 7th goal late in the 2nd half and…Mr. Mullen opening the scoring grabbing his first goal of the season (Thank god!!!). It now seems after two back to back wins against United the boys deserve a break and they will not play until next Tuesday against Pachuca again.
I just ran across this but apparently the delay in the 54th minute was a 2 HOUR DELAY??!?!?! holy crap.. correct me if I’m reading this wrong please:
The Houston Dynamo endured a power outage, rain, lightning, another power outage, even more rain and a 2-hour, 54-minute delay before finally putting away an undermanned D.C. United 2-0 at RFK Stadium.
Wow…amazing, we’ll the weekend is about to begin and I’m off to have a relaxing one!

The delay was less about the lights and more about the amount of water on the pitch.

June 4th – Tornados, lightning, poor drainage, moonsoons game canceled. Though that was when I bought my DC Addidas coat.
July 22nd – Early morning thunderstorms took out 1 of the three power lines to RFK, another had been off for maintenace, not enough power game delayed a day. Feel sorry for the people who didn’t get the notice and bothered to show up.
July 23rd – First half was fine, downpours started, power flickered out, field pooled massively, lightning strikes. Thank god I had my coat. Almost everyone left and if you didn’t drive in the game ended after the last metro trains departed the station to Maryland (it resumed after the last metro train to VA). Fittingly the man of the match was the DC United Squeegee crew who squeegeed all the water off the field when they weren’t stopped by lightning.
