Houston’s the best team in Major League Soccer and doesn’t have a blog on The Offside? What’s up with that?

Well, here it is: my first official post on the new Houston Dynamo Blog!

I’ll have some real posts shortly, but to begin I thought I’d introduce myself. My name is Marc Zeedar and I’ve been a soccer fan my whole life. I grew up as missionary kid in Dakar, Senegal (that’s in West Africa) where I learned to play from when I was three years old. I’m still more comfortable with a ball at my feet than without one.

Back then I loved playing soccer and it was decades before I got comfortable watching soccer. I got a taste watching the 1994 World Cup on TV and eventually attended a few San Jose Clash games in person, but I really got hooked following my San Jose Earthquakes go from worst to first in 2001 (which just happened to be my first year with season tickets). That dream got even better with a repeat in 2003, with me being one of the priviledged 14,000 to witness the Best MLS Game Ever when the Quakes came back from 4-0 down to defeat the LA Galaxy 5-4 in the playoffs and culminating with being at the MLS Cup in person.

These days I don’t play any more but I am loving this new soccer America where we’ve got our own professional league and I can watch live soccer from around the world on TV and computer. You can check out my SoccerTalk USA podcast on iTunes (or at soccertalkusa.com).

A couple years ago I moved from the Bay Area to Oregon, and then the Earthquakes moved to Houston, but I remain a loyal fan of the original Earthquake core. Houston won their first MLS Cup last season and are on track for a repeat and I can’t wait to see them do it. Join me in rooting for the Dynamo as we track them to another championship!
